The Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) is considering banning electric scooters from public transport following an explosion involving an electric scooter at the Governor’s Palace of Catalonia (FGC), according to the “Journal”.

Specifically, e-scooters cannot enter the following types of transport: Rodalies and FGC trains, Intercity buses in Generalitat, Metro, TRAM and city buses, including all TMB buses. Public transport staff will prompt and warn passengers carrying electric scooters, and have the right to fine violators 200 euros. At the same time, the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) will also allow passengers to park electric scooters in the “Bicibiox” area (free bicycle parking area) from February 1. “Bicibiox” is usually installed on roadsides, large-capacity parking lots near train stations, subway stations and street areas.

The Metropolitan Transport Authority said that within six months of the ban, they would set up a panel of experts to study how to regulate the use of e-scooters on public transport to minimize the risk of explosions or fires.
